What the Kindergarten phonics worksheets cover

The pages at this grade, most numerous first, are Find And Color, Word Hunt, Word Chain, Code Breaker, Dictation, Word Cards, Big Letter, and others. Each sheet is marked with the week it was written for, weeks 1 to 35 of Phonics, Decoding, and Early Fluency, Kindergarten, so practice can follow the lesson it belongs to.

1st Grade takes these further: Alphabetical Order, Letter Recognition, Word Games & Puzzles, Phonemic Awareness and Sight Words.

The sets with the most practice to draw on are Short E, Sight Words and Short I.

What the Kindergarten sheets practice, set by set

  • Alphabetical Order: Each page gives runs of the alphabet with letters missing, and the child traces and writes the missing letters in order.
  • Letter Recognition: Every letter has two pages: a big letter to trace beside its keyword picture, and a letter-sound page where the child picks the pictures that begin with the sound and finds the letter among others.
  • Phonemic Awareness: The picture pages work on four things in turn: rhymes, syllables to count, first sounds, and words of three sounds.
  • Sight Words: The words are the first few a child meets, such as I, is, the, a and to. Word cards mark the part to learn by heart, and a heart-word page has the child find the word, build it and read it in a sentence.
