Teaching Faith Word Searches
What it is
Each puzzle takes six short words from a Bible story, following the school year from Creation to the birth of Jesus to Easter. The grown-up reads the list aloud, the child finds each word in a small grid where words run across only, and then writes the words in groups by how many letters they have.
When a child is ready
Use them once the child knows the letters by sight; the words are heard and found, not sounded out.
If they struggle
If the child scans the grid aimlessly, give one plan: find the word's first letter, then check the letters after it one at a time. Counting the letters of each word on fingers before writing it in its group turns the sorting into a spelling lesson.
