Teaching Faith Word Searches
What it is
These puzzles hide the week's kindergarten spelling words in a grid of capitals, running across and down, with the word list printed underneath. Hunting a word makes a child look at every letter in order, which is exactly what spelling asks for.
When a child is ready
Use them once the child can already read the words on the list; a word search reviews a word, it does not teach one.
If they struggle
If the child scans the grid aimlessly, give one strategy: find the word's first letter, then look right and look down from it. Have them read each word aloud before circling it and check it off the list, so the puzzle stays a reading task rather than a shape hunt.
