Building Number Sense

Traditional Arithmetic & Logic

The sequenced K–5 mathematics series of the Faith Thinkers family. All six student texts teach computation, number relationships, patterns, measurement, geometry, and reasoning in the same order every time: explicit modeling, guided work, independent application, word problems, and review. Kindergarten through Grade 2 also include a coordinated practice workbook and a complete teaching guide; Grades 3–5 pair their student texts with the extensive Math Practice Library.

Core math curriculum · Who it is for

Is Building Number Sense the right math program?

Building Number Sense is the lesson sequence of the Faith Thinkers family; the Math Practice Library is the practice. The two stay distinct on purpose, so you always know which one you are holding.

Choose it when

  • You want traditional arithmetic taught in order from a student text — the model shown clearly before the child works alone.
  • You are teaching Kindergarten through Grade 2 and want the full package: student text, coordinated practice workbook, and a teaching guide you can read in full before you join.
  • You are teaching Grades 3–5 and want a sequenced student text supported by extensive grade-and-skill practice in the Math Practice Library.

More Faith Schooling paths

  • You already have a math program and only need more practice pages by skill — the Faith Thinkers Math Practice Library.
  • You want to inspect the exact grade package first — every grade page shows the real student text, included components, skills, and eight zoomable sample pages.

Questions parents ask

What is published for each grade?
All six Kindergarten through Grade 5 student texts are published. Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2 also include a coordinated practice workbook and complete teaching guide. Grades 3 to 5 are supported by the extensive Math Practice Library, organized by grade and skill.
How is this different from the math practice library?
This is the curriculum — it decides what is taught and in what order. The practice library is drill and review for a skill that has already been introduced. Most families use both, but the practice pages are never the lesson.
Do I need manipulatives?
Nothing you have to buy. The concrete stages call for countable objects, and beans, buttons, coins or pasta all work. What matters is that a child moves real objects before working with the symbols.
Where do I start if my child is behind in math?
Start at the skill, not the grade. Print the free sheets from a set one grade below your estimate; if they are comfortable, move up, and if they are not, you have found the starting point. Every practice set opens its first three sheets to everyone.
