Teaching Find the Letter
What it is
Find the Letter pages set one lowercase letter beside a field of look-alikes, and the child finds and colors every one of it — every a hiding among the o's, c's and d's. Picking a letter out of a crowd is a different job from naming it on a card.
When a child is ready
Begin once the child can name a letter and give its sound but still slows down when that letter sits beside similar ones.
If they struggle
If the child colors the b's along with the d's, write the target letter on a small card and let them slide it next to each shape to compare before coloring. Work one confusable pair at a time — a and o first, then b and d — instead of the whole alphabet.
