Teaching Letter Tracing and Printing
What it is
These are formation pages: one letter to a sheet, traced inside dotted guides and then written on empty lined rows, plus whole-alphabet tracing sheets. The lesson is stroke order and where the letter sits on the line, not the letter's name or sound.
When a child is ready
A child is ready when the pencil grip holds steady and they can copy a straight line, a circle and a cross.
If they struggle
If letters float above the line or sink through it, say the strokes aloud as the child writes: top, straight down, around. Stop after three well-formed letters rather than filling the page with tired ones, and practice the shape big first — on a chalkboard, or with a finger in a tray of salt.
