What the 2nd Grade sheets practice, set by set

• Bossy R (r-controlled vowels): The set is review: words with ar, or and er sorted by team, then read in word chains, word hunts and roll-and-read games.
• Sight Words: The set is word cards only, four words to a page, with longer words such as look, think, many, found and going.
• Silent Letters: mb: Mb is sorted beside two other silent pairs, wr and kn, with words such as crumb, limb, wrong and wrist, in sorts, word chains and word hunts.
• The OO Sound: The same two sounds come back as review, in sorts, word chains, word hunts and roll-and-read games.
• Soft C: The child sorts soft c from hard c and reads words such as nice, dance, juice and choice on flashcards, in word hunts and in two short fluency reads.
• Vowel Sounds: The sheets spell the long vowels: long a as ai, ay or a_e, long e as ee, ea or e_e, long i as igh, ie or i_e, with er, ir and ur, and the color grids hide those spellings among short-vowel words such as flat, chick and lamp.
• Spelling Lists: The lists are seven words long and follow the vowel teams: igh, the long a family, ou and ow, oi and oy, au and aw.
