Teaching Long O Family
What it is
Long o is spelled o_e (bone), oa (boat), ow (snow), and oe (toe), plus a single o at the end of short words (go, no).
When a child is ready
Teach the family after magic e o_e is secure.
If they struggle
ow has two sounds (snow, cow), which confuses many children. Teach the long o spellings first, and when the child meets an ow word, try the long o sound first, then the /ow/ sound if the word does not make sense.
