Teaching Long E Teams
What it is
Long e is spelled with the teams ee (feet), ea (seat), and sometimes ey (key), ie (field), or a single e (me).
When a child is ready
Teach long e teams after short vowels and magic e, once the child reads ai and ay teams.
If they struggle
ee is the most reliable and ea the most common; teach them together as 'two ways to spell the same sound.' If ea words are misread, note that ea sometimes says short e (bread, head) and keep those for later.
