Teaching Magic E: e-e
What it is
The e_e pattern is magic e with the vowel e in the middle: Pete, these, theme, complete. The final e is silent and the first e says its name.
When a child is ready
Teach this after a_e, i_e, o_e, and u_e are secure, because e_e words are rarer and many are longer.
If they struggle
Point out that most e_e words are two syllables (athlete, compete, delete). Break the word at the syllable, read the last part with the magic-e rule, then blend the whole word.
