Teaching Long Vowel Teams Review
What it is
Vowel teams are two vowels that work together for one sound, most often the long sound: ai in rain, ee in feet, oa in boat, ea in seat.
When a child is ready
Teach vowel teams after magic e, since both are ways to spell long vowels.
If they struggle
If the child sounds out each vowel separately, teach the rhyme 'when two vowels go walking, the first one does the talking' as a starting rule, then practice the teams that follow it (ai, ay, ee, ea, oa) before the ones that do not.
