Teaching Long I: igh

What it is

igh is a three-letter team that spells long i: light, night, high, right. The gh is silent.

When a child is ready

Teach it after i_e is secure, since both spell the same sound.

If they struggle

Children want to sound out the g and h. Teach igh as one chunk with one keyword (igh, light), and read the -ight family (night, sight, might, tight) as a group.
