What the Kindergarten grammar and writing worksheets cover

The pages at this grade, most numerous first, are Write And Draw, Sentence Builder, Fix The Sentence, Read And Draw, Copywork, Organizer Page, Look And Circle, and others. Each sheet is marked with the week it was written for, weeks 1 to 35 of Phonics, Decoding, and Early Fluency, Kindergarten, so practice can follow the lesson it belongs to.

1st Grade takes these further: Capitalization and Punctuation; Edit and Repair; Parts of Speech; Sentence Building; Copywork; and Sentence Writing.

What the Kindergarten sheets practice, set by set

  • Capitalization and Punctuation: Each sentence is about five words long and has one thing to fix: a missing capital at the start (a kid sat on the bus.) or a missing end mark.
  • Edit and Repair: The child looks for two words run together (Ken got abag.) and for a missing capital or end mark, in sentences of about five words.
  • Parts of Speech: There are two kinds of word, naming and action: the child circles what an animal can do (a frog can hop), finds the action word in a short sentence, and sorts word cards into the two groups.
  • Sentence Building: The sentences are about five words long: the child builds one (A kid sat on the bus.), makes a short one longer by adding a phrase (Ken ran, to Mom), and tells a whole sentence from a piece of one.
  • Copywork: The verse is a short phrase of two to six words. The child traces it once, copies it once, and then puts its words in order, fills in the missing words or writes it from memory.
  • Sentence Writing: Each page is a picture to draw and a sentence to write about it, started for the child (It is a ...). A third are about the week's story, a third about faith and kindness, and a third about a letter sound.
