Teaching Sentence Writing
What it is
A complete sentence names something and tells what it does or is, begins with a capital letter, and ends with a period, question mark, or exclamation point.
When a child is ready
Begin after the child can copy words and write a few sight words from memory.
If they struggle
Say the sentence first, count the words on fingers, then write. Check the three things every time: capital, spaces, end mark. Copywork of good sentences builds the habit before independent writing.
