Teaching Copywork
What it is
Copywork is carefully copying a well-written sentence or passage, which teaches handwriting, spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure at the same time.
When a child is ready
Begin with single words and short sentences as soon as the child forms letters comfortably.
If they struggle
Shorten the passage rather than lower the standard: a neat, correct sentence is worth more than a sloppy paragraph. Read the passage together first so the child copies meaning, not just marks.
