2nd Grade Grammar & Writing is the thinnest grade in this library: four printable sheets, all of them single-page grammar lessons on parts of speech, sentence building, capitalization and punctuation, and edit and repair. There is no 2nd Grade copywork set. All four pages are open to everyone.

Why is there so little 2nd grade grammar practice here?
We would rather say that plainly than pad the page. The four lesson pages are real and useful, and they are the same single-page references that appear at 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade. But four sheets is not a year of grammar practice, and nothing here pretends otherwise.
For daily practice at this level the neighboring grades are the honest answer. 1st Grade holds a 36-sheet copywork set and 3rd Grade holds another; a second grader usually sits between them, and the right one is whichever he can copy accurately without frustration. The Kindergarten writing sets are also open to him, and are often the right level for a child still assembling sentences: 5 labeling sheets, 10 sentence-writing sheets, 14 explanatory writing sheets, and 15 opinion writing sheets.
What the four pages here do well is give a parent the language to teach with. Read Parts of Speech and Sentence Building before you correct your child's writing and your corrections will be consistent from week to week. Keep Capitalization and Punctuation beside the desk. Edit and Repair shows a child what proofreading actually looks like, which most children have never been shown.
Second grade is usually the year handwriting becomes automatic and spelling becomes the visible problem instead. That shift is why a second grader can often work a grade up in copywork while still needing Kindergarten-level help producing his own sentences. Choose each set by what he can do, not by the number printed on the label.

- Sentence Building - 1 lesson page — How those parts make a complete sentence; needs the vocabulary from the page above.
- Capitalization and Punctuation - 1 lesson page — The marks that show where a sentence starts and stops; use it while writing daily.
- Edit and Repair - 1 lesson page — Proofreading a sentence that is wrong; last, because a child must know correct first.

- Is four worksheets really all there is for 2nd grade?
- In this subject, yes. Grammar & Writing holds 294 sheets in total and 2nd Grade accounts for four of them, the four single-page grammar lessons. The other grades are larger because they include copywork sets. We would rather tell you that than describe four pages as a program.
- What should a second grader use instead?
- The 1st Grade or 3rd Grade copywork set, chosen by what your child can copy accurately rather than by the number on the label. If he is still working out where a sentence ends, the Kindergarten sentence set and sentence-writing sheets are the better starting point. Practice should sit just below the edge of frustration.
- Are these four pages free?
- Yes. Every skill set here opens its first three worksheets to everyone, so a set holding a single page is open in full. All four 2nd Grade sheets are single-page lessons, which means the whole grade is open. Print them, read them, and use them as your own reference while you teach.
