Teaching Nouns

What it is

A noun names a person, place, thing, or idea: teacher, church, book, courage.

When a child is ready

Teach nouns once the child writes simple sentences and can talk about what a sentence is about.

If they struggle

Start with things the child can point to, then places, then people, then ideas last. Hunting for nouns in a favorite book makes the category concrete.
