Teaching Ordering Numerals
What it is
Ordering numerals means putting number cards into counting order and filling the gaps in a sequence: 4, 5, blank, 7.
When a child is ready
Ready when the child counts forward accurately and recognizes each written numeral without hesitating.
If they struggle
If a blank stops the child, have them count out loud from the start of the row until they reach it. A number path on the table turns the task from remembering into checking, and loose cards can be slid into place before anything is written.
