Teaching Counting 4 and 5
What it is
Counting four and five objects, one number word for each, and answering how many without starting the count over.
When a child is ready
Ready when three objects are counted reliably and the child stops at the last object instead of counting on past it.
If they struggle
If the child recounts every time you ask how many, count together, cover the objects, and ask again; the answer is still five. A hand of five fingers and a dice face let four and five become shapes the child knows without counting.
