Teaching Counting Practice
What it is
Groups of tens rods and ones cubes to count, number sequences that run past 100 to fill in, and sets of dots to draw.
When a child is ready
Start once the child counts to 100 and knows that a rod stands for ten.
If they struggle
Count the rods by tens first, then count on by ones: ten, twenty, thirty, thirty-one. Crossing 100 is the usual stumble, so say 99, 100, 101 aloud several times.
