Teaching Counting Practice
What it is
These pages ask for the number just before and just after a given one, written into blanks such as 12, __ or __ 14. Others show two groups of pictures to count and then compare.
When a child is ready
Ready once the child counts to twenty aloud and writes the numerals to twenty.
If they struggle
One before is harder than one after, because it means counting backward. Keep a 1 to 20 strip in view, put a finger on the given number, step left for before and right for after, and say both aloud before writing.
