In Grade 1: a two-digit number shown as tens and ones, in a number bond, ten less and ten more, and on a number line. Each page takes one number and breaks it into tens and ones, a number bond and addition sentences, so decomposing numbers is practiced here.

Practice pages support a program; they are not the lesson. These sheets reinforce Building Number Sense Grade 1, the sequenced K–5 math series from Faith Thinkers. See every program →

Teaching Place Value

What it is

One two-digit number looked at many ways: tens and ones, a number bond, ten less and ten more, even or odd, the number in words, and its place on a number line.

When a child is ready

Ready once the child reads numbers to 100 and counts by tens.

If they struggle

Ten less and ten more change only the tens digit. Have the child cover the ones digit and count the tens up or down by one.

This skill in other grades: Kindergarten · Grade 2 · Grade 3 · Grade 4 · Grade 5
