Teaching Place Value
What it is
Numbers to the millions written into a place-value chart and in expanded form, rounding to any place up to the hundred thousands, and multiplying by 10, 100 and 1,000.
When a child is ready
Ready once numbers to 10,000 are read and rounded to the nearest hundred.
If they struggle
Say the number aloud in periods, thousands and then ones, before writing it in the chart. Multiplying by 100 moves every digit two places to the left.
