Teaching Number Lines

What it is

Number lines in quarters, tenths and hundredths with missing numbers to write, and a line plot to make from pebble lengths measured to the eighth of an inch.

When a child is ready

Ready once decimals to hundredths are read and fractions are compared.

If they struggle

On a decimal line, find what one jump is worth by subtracting two neighboring labels. On the line plot, change every length to eighths before placing it.
