What the child does

Read John 6:8-13. Draw what changed. Explain how you know.

What it teaches

Explain Jesus' provision by representing the small starting quantity and the filled people and remaining fragments, using John 6:11-13.

Teacher notes

Read John 6:8-13. The two object illustrations remind the learner of the kinds of food, not their full starting quantities. Let the child draw five loaves and two fish in the first panel, then people who have eaten in the second. Ask how the small amount of food connects with Jesus providing for the crowd. Do not require artistic skill. Ask learners to connect the starting food, Jesus giving thanks and distributing, the people being filled, and the remaining fragments. Accept supported oral reasoning when handwriting is a barrier.

Answer

At the start: five barley loaves and two small fishes (John 6:9). Afterward: people have eaten and are filled (6:12); twelve baskets of fragments remain (6:13). Jesus gave thanks and distributed the food (6:11). Accept simple drawings and an oral retelling.
