Build Peter's Message

Acts 2:37-39 (KJV)

A free cut-and-paste activity for ages 7–9 from Acts 2:37-39. A child cuts the words and assembles Peter's answer to the question What shall we do, then reads the completed wording aloud. The finished sentence must match the King James text exactly, which is what the answer key checks.

What the child does

Read Acts 2:38. Cut the words. Glue them in place.

What it teaches

Assemble the exact KJV wording of Acts 2:38 and identify repentance, the baptismal name and the promised gift in Peter's response.

Teacher notes

Read Peter's preaching in Acts 2:22-36, then 37-39. The scene represents Peter speaking to listeners; it does not assert exactly three people attended, their identities or an exact architectural setting. Give students a Bible and help them find Acts 2:38. Cut out the three word cards and place them in the matching spaces before gluing. Read the entire assembled verse together. Teach repentance as turning from sin toward God, baptism in Jesus Christ's name for remission of sins, and the gift of the Holy Ghost. Teach water baptism as immersion. Apostolic Pentecostal doctrine understands this response within the New Birth; do not substitute a sinner's prayer or pressure a child to imitate spiritual experience. The image depicts preaching, without misleading divine figures or recurring flame symbols. Supplies: Bible, crayons or pencil, glue stick and adult-supervised scissors.

Answer

Spaces in order: Repent, / Jesus Christ / Holy Ghost. The comma belongs on the Repent card; the period belongs on the Holy Ghost card. There is no comma after Jesus Christ in the source verse. The assembled wording must match Acts 2:38 exactly. The printed cut-word order is intentionally mixed. The people were pricked in their heart after hearing Peter and asked what they should do (Acts 2:37).
