Teaching Greek Root: chron = time
What it is
The Greek root chron means time. A chronicle tells events in the order of time, chronology is that order itself, a chronic cough lasts a long time, and to synchronize watches is to set them to the same time.
When a child is ready
Teach it once the child knows that ch can say /k/ in words from Greek, as in school.
If they struggle
If the ch is read as in chin, the word falls apart. Remind the child of school, echo and Christmas, where ch says /k/. Then ask the time question of each word: what does this have to do with time?
