Teaching Counting

What it is

These pages hold a jumble of squares, triangles, circles, and rectangles to sort by kind, color by the code shown, and count, with the total for each kind written in the table at the bottom.

When a child is ready

Ready once the child names those four shapes on sight and counts a group of twenty accurately.

If they struggle

Counting a scattered jumble is where this breaks down. Color every shape of one kind first and count only the colored ones, then move to the next kind. A tally mark for each shape as it is colored holds the count when the picture is crowded.
