Teaching Greek Root photo-
What it is
Photo- means light. A photograph is writing made with light, a photocopy is made with light, and photosynthesis is how a plant uses light to make its food.
When a child is ready
Teach it once the child reads three- and four-syllable words and can hold the parts of a word in mind while reading it.
If they struggle
Build the words from parts on cards: photo plus graph, photo plus synthesis. If the child only knows photo as a picture, go back to the camera and the light it needs, so the root means light and not picture; otherwise photosynthesis will make no sense.
