Teaching Elapsed Time
What it is
Elapsed time to the minute over spans of more than an hour, found from clocks and on a time line, and stories that ask how long something took or when it began.
When a child is ready
Ready once elapsed time within one hour is easy.
If they struggle
For a story that asks when something began, work backward on the time line: take off the whole hours first, then the minutes.
