Teaching Measurement

What it is

Length read off a ruler in inches and centimeters, clocks to the hour and half hour, pennies, nickels and dimes with change from 20 cents, and a story problem.

When a child is ready

Ready once the child tells time to the hour and counts by fives and tens.

If they struggle

Count coins from the largest to the smallest, saying the running total aloud. The change is what is left when that total is taken from 20.

This skill in other grades: Kindergarten · Grade 2 · Grade 3 · Grade 4 · Grade 5
