Teaching Measurement

What it is

Length in inches and centimeters, clocks to five minutes, quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies with change from a dollar, and a story problem.

When a child is ready

Ready once the child counts by fives round the clock and knows the value of a quarter.

If they struggle

For change from a dollar, count up from the total to 100: to the next ten first, then by tens. Counting up is easier than subtracting.

This skill in other grades: Kindergarten · Grade 1 · Grade 3 · Grade 4 · Grade 5
