Teaching Measurement

What it is

Length in inches and centimeters, clocks to the minute, ten-, five- and one-dollar bills with coins and change from twenty dollars, and a story problem with three-digit numbers.

When a child is ready

Ready once decimal subtraction to hundredths is done on paper.

If they struggle

Write the total under 20.00 with the decimal points lined up and subtract as with whole numbers. Check by adding the change back.

This skill in other grades: Kindergarten · Grade 1 · Grade 2 · Grade 3 · Grade 4
