Teaching World Currencies
What it is
These sheets name and count money other than dollars, such as pounds, euros, pesos, and rupees, reading each symbol and adding notes and coins in that currency. The arithmetic is unchanged; the names and symbols are new.
When a child is ready
Begin once mixed coins in dollars and cents are counted accurately.
If they struggle
Treat it as counting practice wearing new labels: sort the notes and coins by value, count the large ones first, then the small. Leave exchange rates out entirely at this stage. Read the symbol, count the amount, and stop there, because a child who starts asking what a euro is worth in dollars is doing a different and much later lesson.
