Teaching Writing Numbers

What it is

These pages show hands holding up fingers; the child counts them and writes the numeral in the box, then circles the largest number written and crosses out the smallest.

When a child is ready

Ready once the child counts to ten accurately and can form the numerals 0 through 9.

If they struggle

Two hands shown together often get counted from one twice. Have the child say five for the full hand and count on from there, six, seven, eight, touching each raised finger of the second hand. If forming the numeral is the trouble, keep a written 1 to 10 strip beside the page to copy from.
