Teaching Comparing and Ordering Sizes
What it is
These pages compare objects by size: which is longer or taller, and which of three pictured items is longest and which is shortest. Some ask for each length in inches or centimeters first, then the order.
When a child is ready
Ready when the child can line two objects up at one end and say which one sticks out further.
If they struggle
Items drawn from different starting points get misjudged. Have the child lay a strip of paper or a finger along each one from a common baseline, or measure both with the same ruler, before deciding. When three items are ranked, find the longest first, then the shortest, and the middle one is left.
