Teaching Word Root struct (build)
What it is
The root struct means to build. You construct a building, a structure is a thing that has been built, destruction is building pulled down, and to instruct is to build knowledge into someone.
When a child is ready
Teach it once the child reads multi-syllable words and has worked with the prefixes con-, de-, and in-.
If they struggle
Sort the words by prefix and say what each one does to the building: con- builds together, de- takes it down, re- builds again. Then have the child use one of the words in a sentence about something they have actually built, which fixes the root to a real memory.
