Teaching Greek Root: graph = write, draw
What it is
The Greek root graph means to write or draw. An autograph is a name written by its owner, a photograph is a picture drawn with light, a paragraph is a block of writing, and a biography is a life written down.
When a child is ready
Teach it once the child knows bio and geo, because graph appears in many of the same words.
If they struggle
The ph is the hurdle for some children: it says /f/. If a long word stalls, cover everything except graph, read it, then add the front part: photo-graph, tele-graph, auto-graph.
