Teaching Greek Root: geo = earth
What it is
The Greek root geo means earth. Geography describes the earth's lands and waters, geology is the study of its rocks, and geometry began as the measuring of land.
When a child is ready
Teach it after bio, since both roots join the same endings.
If they struggle
Geography and geology are easy to mix up. Hold on to the second part: graph is to write or draw, so geography maps the earth; logy is the study of, so geology studies it. Sorting the words by their endings makes the difference stay.
