Teaching Multiplying Fractions
What it is
Fractions multiplied by fractions, and unit fractions and whole numbers divided, each with a model to draw, and a story problem about sharing.
When a child is ready
Ready once a whole number times a fraction is easy and fractions are simplified.
If they struggle
For a fraction times a fraction, shade one fraction across a rectangle and the other down it: the overlap is the answer. Dividing by a unit fraction asks how many of that piece fit.
