Teaching Fractions
What it is
Fraction strips to read, pairs of fractions to compare with the greater than and less than signs, equivalent fractions to complete up to eighths, and fractions to shade and explain.
When a child is ready
Ready once halves, thirds and fourths are named easily and the child knows that more parts means smaller parts.
If they struggle
Lay one strip under the other. Two fractions are equal when their shaded ends line up, and the longer shading is the larger fraction.
