Teaching Fractions

What it is

Fraction strips in fifths, tenths and twelfths to read, fractions with different denominators to compare, and equivalent fractions to complete, including tenths written as hundredths.

When a child is ready

Ready once equivalent fractions to eighths are understood and the times tables are quick.

If they struggle

To make an equivalent fraction, multiply the top and the bottom by the same number. Check it on the strips before trusting the rule.
