Teaching Lines and Angles

What it is

Naming lines, rays, segments and angles, measuring an angle with a protractor, drawing one to a size, and finding whether a shape has a line of symmetry.

When a child is ready

Use it once a ruler is handled steadily and right angles are recognized.

If they struggle

For the protractor, line the center on the corner and one arm on zero every time; most wrong readings are the wrong scale. For symmetry, fold a paper copy of the shape.
