Families searching for apostolic homeschool curriculum are usually asking two questions at once. The first is academic: is the reading and math instruction actually good? The second is doctrinal: when this material touches salvation, baptism, the Godhead or holiness, will it teach what our family and our church teach, or will we spend the year quietly editing it?

Most Christian publishers write from a broadly evangelical position, and their materials are often excellent at what they set out to do. The Hidden Word says of itself that it is an independent Faith Schooling programme, not published, endorsed, approved or certified by the United Pentecostal Church International or by any other organisation, and that its Scripture list is the one transcribed for this programme rather than any current year's official list. It teaches one King James selection at a time through the same five sessions — Meet, Break, Encode, Erase, Own — then reviews on a widening schedule: same day, next day, three days, one week, two weeks, one month.

Mastery is defined rather than assumed. In those programs faith is carried inside the lessons rather than added beside them: each reading week is built around a Bible hero, a virtue and a Scripture. The academic Scripture is quoted from the New King James Version; The Hidden Word uses the King James Version, because it is a memory and quizzing curriculum and its mastery standard is word-perfect KJV.

It fits a home that wants doctrine stated rather than implied, wants Scripture memory taught with a defined method, and wants to teach the school day itself from scripted guides with a mastery rule instead of a calendar. It also fits Sunday school teachers, quizzing coaches and small-group leaders, since the Academy is free to use in a church setting.

Look elsewhere if you need an all-subject boxed year: Faith Schooling does not publish science or history, and families pair it with their own choices there. Look elsewhere if you need video teachers, a program that grades itself, an accredited school that enrols your child and issues transcripts, or anything above Grade 5. And if a doctrinal point in these materials differs from your church's teaching, read it with your pastor rather than around him.
