Teaching Geometry and Shapes

What it is

Flat shapes to name with their sides and corners counted, small grids to measure by counting around the edge and counting the squares inside, and a rectangle and a triangle to draw on dot paper.

When a child is ready

Start once the child knows a circle, square, triangle and rectangle by sight and counts to 12.

If they struggle

Put a finger on one corner and mark it before counting, so no side is counted twice. For area, write a number in each square.
