Teaching Core Skills
What it is
A mixed set that revisits the grade's main arithmetic in six different framings — Discover, Model, Strategize, Apply, Connect and Prove — rather than teaching one new skill. The same idea is met as a picture, as a written method, and as a problem to explain.
When a child is ready
Use it once the grade's skills have each been taught somewhere, since these pages assume the method and ask the child to choose and defend it.
If they struggle
If a page stalls, look at which framing it is. A child who can Model but not Prove understands the procedure and cannot yet explain it, so ask them to talk you through one worked example before writing anything. Go back to the single-skill set for whatever the page turned out to be about.
