Teaching Sort the Shapes
What it is
The quadrilateral family sorted by its properties, statements such as a rectangle is a parallelogram to mark always, sometimes or never, and shapes to draw that fit one name and not another.
When a child is ready
Ready once the child can say what makes a parallelogram, a rectangle, a rhombus and a square.
If they struggle
Read each statement in the direction it is written: every square is a rhombus, and only some rhombuses are squares. A family diagram on scrap paper helps.
