Teaching Find the Unknown

What it is

Fact families with two-digit numbers and the blank in any place, eight equations to complete, and a story problem that asks for the starting number.

When a child is ready

Ready once two-digit addition and subtraction are worked on paper.

If they struggle

Draw the bond beside each equation and write in the two numbers that are known. The missing one is then plainly a sum or a difference.
