Teaching Fix the Mistake
What it is
Six three-digit subtractions that have already been worked, some right and some wrong. The child marks each one, repairs the wrong ones, proves the repair by adding back, and names where the mistakes came from.
When a child is ready
Ready once three-digit subtraction with borrowing has been taught.
If they struggle
Rework each problem on scrap paper without looking at the printed answer, then compare. Most of the wrong ones forgot to borrow.
