Teaching Fix the Mistake
What it is
Four worked problems with a mistake in each: a four-digit sum, a three-digit product, a four-digit difference and a division with a remainder. Each is corrected and explained, then four fresh problems are solved.
When a child is ready
Ready once four-digit addition and subtraction and division by one digit are accurate.
If they struggle
For the division, multiply the answer back and add the remainder. A remainder bigger than the divisor is itself the mistake.
