Teaching Addition Facts and Drills
What it is
These early drills practice adding small numbers with pictures and then with numerals, so a child moves from counting everything to knowing the sum.
When a child is ready
Begin after the child counts objects to 10 accurately and understands that adding means putting together.
If they struggle
Go back to objects. Let the child build both groups, push them together, and count. Numerals should describe what the hands just did.
