Teaching Suffix -cian
What it is
The ending -cian says /shun/ and names a person who does something: a musician makes music, an electrician works with electricity, a physician practices medicine, a magician does magic. It usually attaches to a base ending in c or -ic.
When a child is ready
Teach it after -tion and -sion, since all three say /shun/ and the useful difference is what each one names.
If they struggle
Sort by what the word names: -cian is always a person, while -tion and -sion name an act, a thing, or a state. If the child writes musition, go back to the base word music and add the person ending to it, saying 'a person who does this' as it is written.
